CHILDREN WITH GOD’S EYES

God gave his eyes
To children
So that grown-pus might shape up.

Children put on white clothes
That smelled of peace.
Children with God’s eyes
Could not talik sense to grown-ups.

They  could not say, “Stop it!”
To bloodshed,
Could not shed teras
To proverty.

On their neighborhoods
They played games
Throwing stones fearlessly.
On their hands orange blossoms
That neve bloomed.

They never knew the taste of apples
The children with God’s eyes…

The gates of brotherhood
Could never be opened.
Fathers smelling of tobacco
With yellow fingers
Could not caress
The children with God’s eyes,
Their hair smelling of God.

The children of
Women deeply hurt
Never became brothers
Under the same sun
On the same rain…

Children  with God’s eyes
Never had any toys.

They were God’s of
The earth’s
Hopeless
Despondent
Who matured early.

Their hearts
Always pierced
With tiny bullets…
